Registration: Neurobiology of Trauma - In Person Training
05
May
This presentation will begin with an overview of the nature of traumatic events (such as sexual assault, domestic violence and witnessing violence) and the difference between normal, situational and traumatic stress. Dr. Cetl will then discuss the physiological components of trauma, such as the neurobiological structures, biochemistry and the essence of phenomena such as dissociation, hypervigilence and flashbacks that affect emotion and behavior. Additionally we’ll review the techniques and skills needed by behavioral health practitioners in dealing with trauma victims. Participants will learn how trauma affects victims’ emotions and behavioral presentations. Special attention will be given to examining how the brain processes and recalls traumatic events.
