This course is designed to introduce or review strategies for therapy practices. This is designed with the beginning clinician in mind and may benefit experienced clinicians in reviewing some of the strategies. The overall goal of the course is that clinicians would leave with new tools for their toolbox as well as potentially considering how to better utilize the tools they already possess. Practical application with be an emphasis. Interaction and questions and answers will be included. Some of the topics covered include self of the therapist and awareness techniques, working with significant others/caregivers, managing ambivalence, resistance or just plain difficult clients, self-care, suicidal ideation, slips and relapse, getting started and enjoying your job. This course will satisfy the 4 hour Suicide Awareness/Prevention CEUs required for most mental health workers.
