February

1 CEHs
Time: 11:00AM-Noon PST
Location: Online
Presenter: Kathleen Mitchell, MHS, LCADC – Vice President and National Spokesperson for the National Organization on Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (NOFAS)

This webinar is hosted by the Frontier Regional FASD Training Center. Locating health professionals, services, educators, or counselors that are knowledgeable on FASD can be difficult or even impossible. Families that are raising children with an FASD oftentimes have to become expert on the topic of FASD since it becomes their job to educate their service providers. It is not uncommon for systems of care to disregard what the parents are reporting. Parents may be blamed for the behaviors that are typical in individuals with an FASD. It is easy to understand why families experience stress, burn out and may even fall into a feeling of helplessness or despair. Kathy Mitchell, a licensed professional therapist will review some of the challenges families may experience and will discuss some of the core qualities of resilient families. She will share suggestions on how to deal with stress and develop a mindset that can assist in families moving from grief and frustration towards communication, understanding and acceptance.
