This workshop will provide specific assessment techniques and information which is most helpful for accomplishing comprehensive and accurate assessments in substance abuse, as well as mental health and co-occurring disorders, in support of the comprehensive behavioral health model becoming the standard of care in the counseling profession. A large aspect of this workshop addresses cultural considerations in assessment, encompassing a broad definition of culture. At the end of this training, participants will have tangible tips and specific wording that will empower them to connect with clients more quickly and gain a better understanding of the client’s life and areas in which they would like improvement, which informs level of care recommendations, the treatment planning process and the structure of therapy.
