This is an active learning workshop with three goals: 1) application of Nonaxial assessment to clients with substance-related and addictive disorders and other co-occurring mental health problems. Participants will complete two nonaxial assessments based on notional case studies, 2) exploration of ethical dimensions of the use of emerging technologies in counseling and supervision, and 3) exploration of the meaning of scope of practice and scope of competency in light of current Nevada regulatory guidance. At the end of the workshop participants will understand and apply DSM-5 Nonaxial Assessment tools and techniques, understand and differentiate provisions of the ACA and NAADAC codes of ethics pertaining to distance counseling and supervision, and identify and discuss Nevada regulatory guidance pertaining to counselor/supervisor scope of practice and scope of competency.
