The Stage of Change Model describes how people move through a series of stages as they modify behavior. In this workshop, participants will learn how to incorporate Guided Imagery into the model in order to enhance clients’ movement through the stages. Guided Imagery is an evidence-based form of meditation in which the client deeply relaxes. An imagery experience allows the client to access the subconscious in order to gain insight into behaviors. Imagery is a powerful yet gentle approach to treatment. Participants will learn techniques to develop the induction phase of imagery. Guidelines for assessing the client’s window of tolerance will be described. An imagery outline for each stage of change will be provided. This workshop is appropriate for MFTs, Social Workers, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors and Nurses.
